Built in 1988 by Jim Marland at the Proteus factory, this car has the aluminium tub with fibreglass bonnet. It was fitted with a 3.8 litre high compression 'gold top' straight port cylinder head including D7 high lift camshafts, enlarged inlet and exhaust valves, unleaded valves and guides, mappable 123 ignition system, electronic fuel pump, triple 2" SU carburettors, high torque starter motor, aluminium catch tank and radiator, oil cooler, Trafford camshaft oil feed system, Kenlowe electric fan. The transmission is Jaguar 4 speed with overdrive all synchromesh gearbox. The steering system is rack & pinion with rose-jointed track rod ends. The suspension has coil springs front and rear with adjustable shock absorbers and the final drive is a Salisbury limited slip differential. The correct 16" wire wheels are retained with Avon V rated radials and the car has dual circuit servo assisted disc brakes all round.
The lightweight bucket seats are trimmed in suede green leather and have full harnesses. A Motolita four spoke wood rimmed steering wheel completes the near perfect period specification. Weather equipment is limited to a tonneau cover, 'Brooklands' style areo screens and a laminated low-line wind deflector.
The sole owner has used the car very sparingly over the last 23 years and it has never been used in competition or for track days.
For those unable to buy one of the 50 or so original C Types when they do very rarely come onto the market at prices around £2.0 million, this is as good as it gets for a recreation and at less than 4% of the price!
